New beds

Joshua and Joel got their new beds January 3, only one week late for Christmas. For a number of weeks, Joshua was asking, "Daddy, where's my new bed?"

When I went to the office he thought I was going to work on the beds and wanted to come along and help. But now Joel can enjoy getting into and out of his own bed, something which he couldn't do with the crib. He's getting much better a staying in his bed, but the first few nights he was regularly falling out of bed. We had a mattress on the floor to cushion his fall and I don't think there was one time that he woke up when he hit the floor.

In the past week I think he's only fallen out once or twice.

I started working on the beds back in August but only had a few hours a week to work on them.

If you love me...

“If you love me, you will obey what I command. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another counselor to be with you forever the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.” John 14:15

Jesus teaches us that we can’t separate love from obedience. He gives us the Counselor or Holy Spirit who provides guidance for our lives. The Holy Spirit is characterized by truth and when people accept Jesus as their savior and Lord, they receive the Holy Spirit. Then they can begin to love and obey. We pray that the Holy Spirit shows you the truth. Amen.

Ready for Christmas

Two boys who are ready for Christmas. Joshua and Joel smile for mommy as she takes a picture for Christmas.

We had a good Christmas as we enjoyed a turkey dinner (Christmas eve) and a day in the park (Christmas day).

Today, (Thursday) the boys are receiving their other big gift, new beds as daddy finished them this past weekend. Now, Joel will be able to get into and out of bed rather than needing to wait for mom or dad to get him out. This seems to have been frustrating him a fair bit lately.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Ok, so I'm late on the Merry Christmas but I'm early on the Happy New Year!

May 2008 hold many blessings for you as you seek God.

Christmas in the Park

Christmas day in the park 2007
Christmas day we spent in Metropolitan Park with another family. They have two boys almost the same age as Joshua and Joel, although both are younger by a couple of months. We had an enjoyable time talking and watching the boys play together. It was almost a perfect Christmas day, for Quito.

I miss the snow that we had last winter in Vancouver...

Working hard!

Joshua and Joel take every opportunity they can to play outside. Joshua has been watching Art Attack, a good program for kids which gives really cool art ideas and shows some neat works of art. I'm sure he uses that as his source of inspiration when he makes some mud to "paint a picture" on the wall.

Joel tends to like similar themes, like playing in the mud! I need to hose them off before they come into the house but as I recall my childhood, I'm sure they had a ton of fun!

Birthday party!

Joel celebrated his birthday with his twin cousins (Matias and Natalia) since the twins' birthday is December 11 and Joel's is December 16.

They enjoyed a nice party with pinatas, cake, chicken and rice. Most of all, the four enjoyed a great time of running around and playing together.

Joel turned 2, and the twins turned 3, so between all four there is only a difference of 20 months.

Many times Joshua has asked us when he is going to play with Matias again. This afternoon he came up and wanted to call Matias on the telephone. So we placed the call and the two of them could talk for a few minutes. Joshua was then content to wait until Christmas day to see them again.
